What is Celebrate Recovery and is it for me?
Celebrate Recovery is a biblically balanced ministry to help those who are hurting by showing them the loving power of Jesus Christ through a recovery process. It is made up of regular people who are on a journey toward wholeness; seeking recovery from and celebrating God’s healing of life’s hurts, habits and hang-ups. Leaders provide a safe, confidential, Christ-centered environment where people can grow. We offer our stories as fellow travelers on the journey to healing. Do you struggle with a particular issue that seems to have such strength and power over you that it has prevented you from experiencing any real victory? Have you been secretly hoping for a safe place to share your struggles and get healing? Celebrate Recovery is for you!
Is Celebrate Recovery confidential?
Yes, Celebrate Recovery maintains strict confidentiality. This promotes an atmosphere of trust and enables recovery. We have a saying that is repeated in every large group meeting:
WHO you see here…
WHAT you hear here…
WHEN you leave here…
We are diligent about confidentiality and anonymity. The guidelines and rules protect all of us from judgment. You will be in a safe place where you can take off your “mask” and be a real and honest person without fear. You are always 100% in control of when and how much you participate.
What exactly is a hurt, habit or hang-up?
Simply put, a hurt, habit, or hang-up is anything that hinders our walk with God. Something that postpones or prevents genuine fellowship with Him and your loved ones.
“Hurts” could be classified as any life experience that may have damaged your heart. Some offense against you that crippled your ability to deal with the world in a healthy way. Something that may have twisted your view of yourself, God, or others. Some common hurts include:
Dysfunctional family (divorce, alcoholism, drug abuse, rage, etc.)
Abused as a child, or by a spouse, employer, or the church
“Habits” tend to be unhealthy patterns that often start as a perceived “remedy” for some problem in your life, but end up turning into a chronic bad behavior or addiction. Habits are the repeat, default scripts you run to when the going gets tough. They are your grooved plays that continually lead to trouble in your life. Some common habits are:
Cheating, affairs, unmarried sex
And lastly, “hang-ups” are those road blocks that keep you from progressing further in God’s plan for your life. They are often shaped by some bent thinking you may have received as a child, or some unhealthy attitude you may have adopted as a means of coping with life’s challenges. Here are some common hang-ups we work out in Celebrate Recovery:
Lack of trust in God
Body image problems
Lack of self-control
Almost everyone suffers from a hurt, habit, or hang-up and almost anyone can benefit from Celebrate Recovery.
